General Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties to maintain order and sanitary conditions in institutional kitchen and eating areas.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sweeps, mops and runs floor machine daily.
- Operates dish machine following established policy to wash, unload and put away resident, cafeteria and special event dishes.
- Washes, sanitizes and puts away pots and pans.
- Collects trash and operates trash compactor.
- Cleans and sanitizes work areas including ovens, deep fryer, tilt skillet, stoves and kettles.
- Cleans and sanitizes cart room, coolers, outside of coolers, employee lounge, janitor room and hallways.
- Performs emergency cleaning jobs as necessary.
- Report any equipment repairs to the Food Service Supervisor.
- Works in the dining room or kitchen tray line for the noon and evening meal, to check trays or carry trays and serve beverages as well as serving ice cream on certain days. ( as needed)
- Keep dish machine, sinks, carts and floor in the dish room clean.
- Take clean dish supplies to the appropriate areas.
- At the end of the shift, responsible for the lock up of the kitchen.
- Clean coolers, walls, extra equipment, shelves, etc. on the weekends.
- Responsible for any other jobs assigned by the Food Service Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Education: High School graduate preferred or equivalent.
- Ability to push, pull and lift objects weighing 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to bend, stoop and squat.
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to follow job sequence.
- Ability to deal with stress of the job.
- Good hand/eye coordination in the use of appliances.
- Ability to concentrate on details with some interruptions.
- Ability to work along and/or with others.
- Ability to clean standard appliances and equipment.
- Ability to follow directions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a full time position. Work flexible hours including week-end rotation. At times, the kitchen can be noisy and extremes in temperature can be experienced (going from the dish room to the freezer)
Use of hot items and various appliances.
Exposed to cleaning chemicals.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Food Service worker is directly accountable to the Food Service Supervisor.
The Food Service worker is accountable to the Dietary Manager or Late Cook in the absence on the Food Service Supervisor.
