
SISTER LEO MARY BICKERT, SC, age 84, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on October 7, 2013. A native of New Kensington, Sister Leo Mary entered the congregation on September 8, 1950, from St. Joseph Parish, New Kensington. Preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Freda (Roethele) Bickert, she is survived by two brothers, Leo and Joseph Bickert, a sister, Mrs. Mary Louise (Henry) Martin and many nieces and nephews. Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in special education from Duquesne University, she served at the DePaul School for Hearing and Speech from 1954 until 1974. At that time, she was assigned to the auxiliary staff at Seton Hill University. Later she assisted at Assumption Hall, the former infirmary and retirement home of the Sisters of Charity. After her retirement, Sister Leo Mary spent time working with crafts. Always cheerful, helpful, and humble, Sister Leo Mary lived the words spoken by Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, “…all is quiet, no violation of each other’s tranquility, each helping the other with a look of good will.”
