Sister Mary Coleman Kilkeary celebrated her 100th birthday on December 13, 2017. Now in her 84th year of religious life, Sister Mary Coleman entered the Sisters of Charity on March 25, 1934. An elementary school teacher and principal, Sister Mary Coleman, SC, earned a bachelor’s degree in education and taught in the Pittsburgh Diocese at Saint Kieran, Saint Luke, and Holy Innocents schools. She was principal at Saint James School, Wilkinsburg and vice principal at Resurrection School in Brookline. Her other assignments included teaching at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Saint Pancratius School in Lakewood, California.
In 1976, Sister Mary Coleman began working in the Treasurer’s Office of the Congregation as an insurance clerk and as director of programs administering the Congregation’s social security and PACE records. Sister Mary Coleman retired to Caritas Christi, the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity in 1999, where she continued to volunteer her services when needed.
In reflection on religious life, Sister Mary Coleman observed, “I am thankful every day of my religious life. I feel blessed to have been called to the Sisters of Charity.”
