The Foundation of our Ministry

“To speak the joy of my soul at the prospect of being asked to assist the poor, visit the sick, comfort the afflicted, clothe little innocents, and teach them to love God there, I must stop.”
-Elizabeth Ann Seton

For more than 150 years, we have been spreading the message of the Gospel, which offers salvation to everyone we encounter. We remain true to the original purpose of our foundress, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, and our Vincentian heritage, emphasizing our dedication to serving the less fortunate.

Our ministry has traditionally focused on education, health care, pastoral care, and social services. Currently, we offer our services in a variety of roles as educators in early childhood and university settings, tutors, holocaust educators, Seton Arts Service Corps, administrative professionals, social service agency workers, pastoral ministers, healthcare providers including hospital chaplains, hospice care, assisted living facility managers, and adult and child daycare providers. We minister in a variety of ways for peace and justice issues, financial management, offer counseling services, provide legal assistance in immigration law and canon law, and provide spiritual care in a parish food pantry. Retired sisters residing in our motherhouse, Caritas Christi, are involved in many in-house ministries and assist in our administrative offices.

In a changing world, the needs of God’s people invite us to look for other expressions of mission and charism. We do not cling to old ways or hesitate to look beyond what we now see. Instead, with courage and creativity, we can discover that charity is inventive to infinity. If the love of God is inexhaustible, so too is how we are urged to manifest it. Whatever we do, our ministries give tangible expression to our mission.

Together Forward

Our commitment to our ministry is unwavering. We are thankful for our past and the significant contributions of meaningful ministries. We will continue to share the Good News with all we encounter.
