Please Join Us - Help with Disaster Relief
We have been enjoying the splendor of the last days of summer here in Greensburg. But as “Partners in Prayer” in our global community, we have been keenly aware that this summer has been difficult for many people because of the horrific natural disasters in Mexico, Texas, Florida, and the Caribbean. In recent weeks, much suffering and tribulation has been left in the paths of destruction of the earthquakes in Mexico and Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Like you, the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill have been praying daily for people struggling to recover in the aftermath of these crises. No power and limited communications hinder rescue efforts for victims of the most recent earthquake that rocked central Mexico September 19. The death toll of is 200 and rising. And now, new threats are looming as Hurricane Jose is winding up to lash the East Coast and Hurricane Maria has taken a second aim at the already battered Caribbean Islands. Puerto Rico’s Emergency Management Director reported to news agencies that Hurricane Maria has destroyed the island, leveling hundreds of homes and leaving the entire U.S. territory without power. We are concerned for our many dear friends in all of these areas.
Recovery from catastrophes can take years. We know that like the Sisters of Charity, you would like to help victims of these tragic events in a tangible way. After Hurricane Harvey, one of our dear friends from the Houston area advised us that hurricane survivors are in dire need of direct assistance with basic necessities. She suggested that donations be sent directly the Archdiocese of Galveston-Huston In order to quickly get help to where it is needed. An agency specific to the locality of a particular disaster can provide an expedient, streamlined response for recovery efforts including direct assistance, rebuilding, and health care services.
If you missed the opportunity to give to disaster relief in your parish, or in addition to the collections taken up in your own diocese, please scroll down and consider giving to one or more of the location-specific funds below.
