The Sisters of Charity Federation in the Vincentian-Setonian Tradition is comprised of 12 congregations of women religious, representing more than 4,000 members, who recognize their particular character and spirit in the charism of the tradition founded by Saint Vincent de Paul, Saint Louise de Marillac, and Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.

We will use the energy of our love, the gifts and talents of the members of our communities, and our material and spiritual resources to collaborate in the creation of systemic change locally and globally for the common good of all,”

Goals of the Federation

  • Working collaboratively to share our traditions and gifts for the good of the Gospel;
  • Participating in social, spiritual, and education experiences that strengthen our identity as a Federation;
  • Understanding and expression our common heritage rooted in Vincent, Louise, and Elizabeth as expressed in the tradition of the various member congregations.

Members of the Federation commit themselves to be in solidarity with their sisters and brothers who are poor and marginalized.

Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)
at the United Nations

In order to be more effective advocates on peace and and social justice issues, The Federation gained recognition as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) at the United Nations.  NGO status has enabled the congregations of the Federation to raise awareness and provide a voice for the poor and marginalized on global concerns that include:

  • Peace through nuclear disarmament
  • Economic development
  • Social development
  • Refugee assistance
  • Human rights
  • Concerns of women and children
  • Sustainable development and environmental responsibility
