DePaul School for Hearing and Speech is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ellen Mady Octave as its next Executive Director, effective April 27, 2026.

Following a comprehensive national search, Octave was selected to lead DePaul into its next chapter. She brings extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, organizational development, and community engagement, along with a strong record of guiding mission‑driven organizations through periods of growth and transition. Octave received advanced degrees from Capella University and The Catholic University of America. Octave also has significant experience with the Diocese of Pittsburgh and the Sisters of Charity.

“Ellen’s strategic insight, collaborative leadership style, and commitment to building strong teams and partnerships make her exceptionally well-suited to guide DePaul forward,” said Jonathan Gruber, President of the Board of Trustees. “We are confident that her leadership will strengthen the organization and position the school well for the future.”

Octave succeeds Dr. Ruth Auld, who has served as Executive Director with distinction and vision. During her tenure, Auld led significant growth in DePaul’s educational programs, expanded community outreach and deepened the school’s impact on children and families throughout the region.

“Ruth’s leadership has left a lasting mark on DePaul,” added Gruber. “Her tireless advocacy, resilience and unwavering commitment to excellence have helped shape the vibrant, supportive DePaul community we know and love.”

As part of a planned transition, Auld will be working closely with Octave to transition successfully in this role.

The Board would like to thank the Search Committee and Mission Driven Catholic who supported this search process. DePaul School for Hearing and Speech looks forward to welcoming Octave and building on the strong foundation established under Auld’s leadership.
