According to their Constitutions, the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, U.S. Province, will be gathered in a Chapter from February 12 – 22, 2016. A Chapter is the major assembly of the sisters every five years to “be a true sign of our unity in love.” During their days together, following Canon Law of the Church, the sisters are charged to consider the life and mission of the community, assessing its response to the current needs of the church and world. To that end, the Chapter evaluates the mission, structures and resources of the province, sets direction for the future, and elects a leadership team.
Preparations for this significant meeting began nearly a year ago, and sisters have gathered several times for prayer, reflection and dialog about the future of the community. The Chapter meeting itself is primarily a discernment, a prayerful experience of listening to God through and with one another, in order to express a fresh commitment to the spirit and mission of the province.
While it is in session, the Chapter is the highest authority of the province, expressing through its deliberations the unity of members, joined in mutual responsibility for the life of the province and congregation in service to the church and the world. As Sisters of Charity, they express their fidelity to their motivating call, “The love of Christ impels us!”
