The Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill recently welcomed Ellen Mady Octave, Executive Director of DePaul School for Hearing and Speech, and Marjorie Dawkins, Development Director, to Caritas Christi for a visit that connected the school’s present with its rich history.

The day included a tour of the Congregational Archives led by Casey Bowser, where Ellen and Marjorie explored photographs, documents, and artifacts that tell the story of DePaul School’s founding and growth. They also spent time visiting with Sisters Philomena Mannion, Pauline Grentz, Eileen Johnston, Virginia Pascaretta, and Colette Hanlon, whose memories and experiences helped bring that history to life.

As DePaul School continues to expand its programs and embrace new technologies, reflecting on its beginnings offers a deeper appreciation for the mission that remains at its heart. Learning about the vision, dedication, and perseverance of the Sisters who founded the school provided a meaningful connection to the legacy that continues to guide its work today.

The visit served as a reminder that while much has changed over the years, the commitment to empowering children with hearing and speech challenges remains as strong as ever, carrying forward the mission first entrusted to the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill.
