
SISTER MARIE CLARE FARABAUGH, SC, age 97, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on September 15, 2021. A native of Altoona, PA, Sister Marie Clare entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1941, from Saint Leo Parish in Altoona. Preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Ann Bridget (McConnell) Farabaugh, ten brothers: Paul, Louis, Robert, Eugene, William, Richard, David, Vincent, Joseph, Thomas; two sisters: Edna (Farabaugh) Craig and Marie (Farabaugh) Jannello, she is survived by nieces and nephews. Sister earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Seton Hill University and taught students in schools of the Greensburg, Pittsburgh, and Altoona-Johstown Dioceses. From 1975-1977, she studied at Penn State University where she earned a certificate in recreational activities. In 1977, she began a 22-year tenure as the Director of Therapeutic and Recreational Activities at Kane Regional Hospital and Glen Hazel Regional Center, Pittsburgh. During her years of residency at Saint Stephen Convent, Pittsburgh (1988-2011), Sister was an active volunteer at Saint Stephen Parish and School. In 1999, the year of her retirement, Sister Marie Clare was recognized by the Diocese of Pittsburgh with the “Manifesting the Kingdom Award” for her teaching ministry, volunteer activities, and service to the elderly. After retiring, Sister volunteered her services at Kane Regional Center and Caritas Christi until 2011, when she returned to Greensburg. She continued to find joy in providing care and companionship to her fellow sisters at the motherhouse and the residents of the Elizabeth Seton Memory Care Center. Energetic, resourceful and strong, Sister Marie Clare lived the words spoken by Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, “Keep on with hard-earned, but eternal, blissful merit.”
