The Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill began the Season of Creation with an opening prayer, beginning a month of prayer, reflection, and care for our common home.
The Season of Creation is celebrated each year from September 1 through October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. In 2015, following the release of Laudato Si’, Pope Francis established September 1 as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation in the Catholic Church, joining Christians around the world in prayer and action for our common home.
This year’s Season of Creation theme, “Living Waters,” focuses on the importance of water in our lives and throughout creation. The theme is especially fitting this year as Pope Leo XIV has dedicated his September prayer intention to the care of water. He reminds us that water is a gift from God and a source of life and calls us to care for it responsibly, while remembering those who do not have access to clean water.
The sisters began their month-long observance by reflecting on the gift of water and the many ways it sustains life. Throughout September, they will continue these reflections through prayer, giving thanks for water and considering ways they can help care for and protect this gift for all creation.
